We are almost ready for take-off!

If you've been reading my blog for a long time, you probably remember that I took a trip to Minnesota last year in June to visit my family. I do this every summer to help pass the endless summer days....and to get in some good quality time with my family.

The kids and I leave in about 2 hours for the airport for this year's trip...and I am starting to get a wee bit nervous. Isabel is usually a good flier...but I am a bit concerned about how Andrew is going to do. Being a big three year old ball of energy, I am sure he will be THRILLED with having to stay put in his seat for 4 hours straight. *groan* He did pretty well last year, but who knows if I will get that lucky again this time!

I am also hoping that I don't have to sit next to someone else's unhappy/unruly child.

You know what I'm talking about right?

This kid:

So everyone say your prayers that I don't sit next to this kid...and that my son doesn't turn into this kind of kid! lol

I'm also hoping that I don't have a repeat of my last flight. A couple parents decided to get their kids literally run up and down the aisles for quite a lengthy period of time. One of the flight attendants finally had to sternly tell the kids to go back to their seats because "this is not a playground" or something to that effect. I tell you, I wanted to stand up on my chair and applaud because I was just so ticked by the parents' lack of consideration for everyone else on the plane. And its not like the kids were toddlers. They were school-aged kids (probably 6-8 years old or so) who should have had enough discipline to sit still. Ugh. I ALWAYS bring a ton of stuff to entertain my kids...and they KNOW that they do not get up unless they have to pee.

I tell you, I want to curl up in a ball and moan just thinking about flying with my kids. Its not so much that I think my kids will misbehave....but what if they do? What if my son eats some bad banana and turns into Dennis the Menace or something? What if my daughter suffers a sudden hormonal imbalance and decides to cry for an hour straight because she misses her daddy? Ugh.

Now in all seriousness, that probably won't happen.

BUT.....WHAT IF IT DOES????

I just never want to be the parent that everyone else on the plane secretly wants to throw a bucket of cat piss on.

Now...other people's children? Yes that is a real concern. If I am alone, I don't really care about other people's children. Kids can cry, run up the aisle, whatever....I just put on my iPod and tune it out. Its hard though when I have my kids with me and they see other kids getting to run around the plane after getting "SIT OR DIE" warnings from me. So wish me luck that everyone else's kids behave!

Ahh the joys of traveling. No wonder I only do it once a year!

Have fun! I know your pain about traveling with kids on a plane. Just the anxiety about the potential for a meltdown makes me jumpy. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun!!

I have had that "annoying kid please sit next to me or behind me and kick my chair" button on my whole life. Maybe that's why I haven't been brave enough to fly with my own yet. Good luck to you!

When we travel with the girls, we bring their school backpacks filled with snacks and games/books/puzzles/etc. It does help avoid the meltdown. Of course, if we're ever stuck on the tarmac for several hours, all bets are off.
